“Learned Dudbear words to sell lamps to Dudbears! Just what is master up to? But it's neat that master comes by to tell me funny stories like that.”
—Cactus Diaries, entry 30
"Faeries' Light" (精霊の光 Seirei no hikari, lit. Spirit Light) is a quest and storyline in Legend of Mana. It is part of a series of events that include Gilbert and the sirens (Sirens and Gilbert's Arc), and is one of the first events of this arc.
Premise[]
Monique is inside her shop, Lamps "Limelight", wondering whether she should close her shop and go to another town, as her lamps aren't selling well enough and she only needs to sell six more. Gilbert enters the shop immediately, mourning that, if she were to leave, she would be leaving her "poet of love" and he couldn't not live without watching the starry sky with her; to which Monique responds she will starve to death if she doesn't sell her lamps. Gilbert then offers to sell her lamp, to which she responds cheery.
Outside the shop, Gilbert will ask the Hero/Heroine to help him sell the lamps, with him buying the first 3. The player must then convince the Dudbears at the Tavern to buy them. First, the Hero/Heroine must talk to The Manager to learn the Dudbears' language.
- Dub: greeting, "yes"
- Dud: "no", "goodbye"
- Duba: "you"
- Duda: "me"
- Dubba: "friends"
- Bubu: "Dudbear"
- Gugu: all other creatures
- Da: "light", "stars"
- Ba: "night"
- Dadda: "lamp"
- Dubababa: "many", "very"
- Du: "little"
- Baba: "music"

After all the lamps are sold, Monique will decide to stay as the Lampmaker. Gilbert says that she won't just stay as the Lampmaker, but as the "sunlight that will brighten his world". He romantically invites her to go watch the stars, to which she agrees, as she had been spending whole six days making the lamps.
Gilbert then starts to talk about his dream. He tells Monique to "grab a passer-by and sell all your lamps". Monique says that the few fans of her lamps she has come from afar just to buy them. Gilbert says to let those Dudbears do the dirty, messy work. Monique says she really enjoys the time and effort put into them. Gilbert says for them to have a famous designer make a masterpiece. Monique says it's fun to gather odds and ends to make unique lamps. Gilbert says that'll be all they will do, and they will be rich before they know it. Monique says that though she has no income, the joy of her work is what she lives for.
Gilbert stops. He complains, for he is becming depressed at Monique's words, and asks her whether she has dreams. She tells him every day is like a "dream-come-true" to her, and that he is making her feel denied for who she is. Gilbert tries to invite her to go abroad the world once more, but she immediately asks him which of her dreams do he sees as an illusion: her, nightly, or hopeful dreams. Finally, Gilbert decides to seek for a new love, as their dreams don't seem to be in harmony. Monique says he has come to that conclusion quickly, and that she will seek a new love, too, as soon as she recover from the shock.
Gilbert then leaves, not before telling her he won't ever forget her. She goes back inside her shop, and comments with the Hero/Heroine that event though Gilbert is a little strange, he is a "nice guy", and that he wants "a much bigger lamp than the little ones" she has. Monique remarks that, as long as it works, size is meaningless, though she is still a little depressed.
Suddenly, the Dudbears enter the shop and start cheering Monique's work, saying that they really love her lamps, and then leave. She cheers, exclaiming that that is why she loves her job. She then thanks the Hero/Heroine, and may give the Trembling Spoon and Sand Rose AF.
