Rachel (レイチェル Reicheru) is a character from Legend of Mana. The 16-year-old daughter of Mark and Jennifer, Rachel is a shy, reserved girl who hardly speaks, and appears to be outwardly unfriendly with most people. Although she is doted on by her father, his love for her is flawed because he is evidently out of touch with reality in treating her as one would an adolescent, despite her being a teenager with completely disparate needs.
Profile[]
The Lost Princess[]
When first visiting Domina, Rachel is seen being interrogated by Elazul in the pub. If the player stands up for her, she will break her silence to thank him or her.
If talked to with Elazul within the party, Rachel hands the Jade Egg to the Hero/Heroine, which is necessary to unlock Mekiv Caverns and start the quest.
Rachel[]
Personality[]
Coming across as a shy, reserved, and taciturn individual, Rachel, at first glance, appears to be a character who is easily overlooked; her interactions with Elazul at the beginning of the game see her being easily bullied into silence, never once speaking up to defend herself from his verbal assault.
More dimensions to Rachel's character are derived from both interacting with her person and her family members. It is through these that one discovers that she, although evidently cohabiting with a father who loves her dearly, is being showered with the wrong brand of love; despite being a teenager and close to becoming an adult, she is still treated as a child by her father. She is thus rightfully indignant and frustrated; speaking to her in her room see her sarcastically urging the Hero/Heroine not to laugh at the childish decor of her room, as "[her] father picked it all out".
In spite of this, Rachel does not hate her father; on the contrary, she still loves him very much, albeit rather sadly due to his ineptness in understanding her needs. This is proven in the eponymous Rachel quest, where it is revealed that Rachel has modified the resident Teapo into a spaceship, presumably to fulfill Mark's childhood dream of traveling to space.
